We had decided a few weeks ago that we were not going to visit the capital city of Bogota. It is huge and cities are difficult with the truck, and if we were to find a hostel to stay in for a few nights we would need to find a safe place to stash the vehicle. As it turns out, we ended up driving through the city twice, through our failed attempt to visit San Jose de Guaviare.
We made it through the city the second time, and found our way to Finca Los Pinos near the little town of San Francisco. We had a nice level place to park, with an amazing view, and a nice covered area with tables and chairs where we could hang out. The Colombian elections were taking place and we decided we didn’t want to drive on election day, should people pour into the streets afterwards in either celebration or protest. This spot was perfect.
Later that day a couple from France pulled in. They were driving north, having started their trip in Argentina. They had some great travel advice for us, places to visit, things to see. We enjoyed having their company and wished that they were travelling south instead of north so that we might cross paths again.
